- black box with electronics and plugin for up to 5 controllable axes with a standard range of three powers of servo motors
- drawings of styles of machine carcasses that will accept the above system
- ballscrews and linear guides at cost effective prices.
You Supply:
- A machine carcass to take linear guides and ballscrews
- usually fabricated from steel plate or standard sections
- to suit a suggested minimum envelope of 4x4x2 ft (1.2x1.2x.6 meters)
WHY ??
There is a growing trend for companies to do development in house - no longer is - "take it to the experts" considered by all to be the best solution for development. The cost of passing information, and making it understood to a subcontractor is often very high. And often costs much more than doing the job in house.

Once the 3D-e-Motion system is fitted the machine can be operated successfully with an absolute minimum of learning time.
The reason for this is that the e-motion system was built up by people with the need to achieve high speed machining in house for large plugs patterns moulds or prototypes. A highly trained CNC machinist is not needed to run this system.
Any person with windows interface knowledge and comprehension of xyz co-ordinates can learn and run this system in less than half a day. The biggest leaning curve is in choice of material and machining strategy.

DEVELOPMENT HISTORY OF THIS SYSTEM
About 7 years ago, when we felt we wanted a 3D machine for making large patterns, the cost of a large machine was astronomical - millions of dollars.
- We decided to build our own machine
- We didn't need something that would machine steel and that would weigh hundreds of tons.
- We didn't need something that would do automatic tool changing and automatic axis changing, and we didn't want to go to a technical school and learn all this stuff !
- We did need something that would machine soft materials - say wood, foam and maybe lead and aluminium - and machine it fast.
Machines that are built to machine steel do not need high speed contouring, because steel cannot be machined at more than 1 meter per minute (40 inches per minute). We wanted 10 times this speed !
This is difficult as the user interface, which is what you see on your computer screen, is usually developed by CNC machine manufacturers and is not available as a stand alone product. And the user interface is important to the way in which the machine achieves high speed contouring.
Note - a machine does two main moves:
- jogging (or traversing) where the tool head is moving in space in straight lines. High speed is easy to achieve because the data transmitted to the motors is minimal.
- contouring - where the tool head is actually cutting the material and where, if the path is curved, the amount of data to be transmitted is huge. Arc curves are not too slow because a circular arc can be defined with little data but as soon as the path becomes curved but not arc then the data required is humungus!
